About this service

What you can expect

Loud snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing, gasping during sleep, morning headaches, or daytime sleepiness can be reasons to seek an assessment. A licensed clinician reviews your symptoms, health history, medications, and safety risks, then decides whether virtual care, a home sleep test, a laboratory sleep study, or in-person care is the appropriate next step. A requisition, test, diagnosis, or treatment is never guaranteed.

How this service works

This service can be handled online or via a booked appointment, depending on your situation and clinician recommendation.

Clinician discretion. All prescriptions, notes, requisitions, and treatment plans are provided only when clinically appropriate and at the clinician's discretion.

Not for emergencies. If this is a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Some concerns may require in-person care.

Questions

Common questions about Sleep Apnea Assessment

No. You can request an assessment, but the clinician decides whether testing is clinically appropriate and which type of test or care setting fits your situation.

Mention loud snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, gasping or choking during sleep, morning headaches, daytime sleepiness, concentration problems, high blood pressure, and any episodes of falling asleep while driving or working.

No. Home testing records a more limited set of breathing-related signals. A full laboratory polysomnography records additional sleep and body signals. The clinician or sleep service determines which approach is appropriate.

Not necessarily. Snoring is common and does not by itself establish sleep apnea. An assessment considers the full symptom pattern, health history, and testing when indicated.

The MedVibe clinical assessment is CAD $150 and tax-exempt. Fees charged by a sleep clinic, laboratory, equipment provider, or insurer are separate.

MedVibe provides a receipt. Reimbursement may be possible through private, workplace, student, health-spending, or travel coverage, but it depends on the plan. Testing and equipment may have separate coverage rules. Check before booking; coverage is not guaranteed.
